Twas the Night Before Christmas . . .

There is something about being in a children's hospital at Christmas time that is very humbling. Persy ended got sick last week with a cold and then ended up in respiratory distress again. As we took care of her I couldn't help but notice the other weary parents there with children much sicker than our own. I felt sad for them, and so grateful that Persy was able to leave on Christmas Eve so we wouldn't have to spend our holidays at the hospital. I also felt grateful that we have some new medications to try with Persephone and also received additional counseling regarding her peanut allergy. We are so very fortunate to be near to excellent medical care.

More fun with Medicine

Another trip to the Emergency Room with the little goddess. Saturday, Persy had a runny nose and was beginning to have trouble breathing. I drover her to InstaCare, and by the time I arrived she was even worse. They did a couple of tests and then told me I needed to drive directly to Primary Children's Hospital. It was quite scary because I was by myself and could only look through the rear view mirror and see her chest heaving up and down as she moaned. It seemed a very long drive even though it probably took just 15 minutes.

She was admitted overnight to the hospital with all sorts of tubes and treatments: oxygen, steroids, nebulizer treatments, IVs etc. I was really impressed with all of the hospital staff and how sweet they were with her and how good they were at explaining things to us and answering questions. It was a long couple of days. She was diagnosed with Bronchiolitis again. I'm really starting to think that we've got an asthma situation on our hands, but they just don't diagnose asthma this young.

Anyhow, just writing this is making me feel exhausted and anxious all over again. I'm happy to report that Persy is now doing much better.

Sickies

I think every mom can relate to the trial of trying to care for a sick family when you are feeling sick yourself. If motherhood was a sorority, then this would be its twisted hazing activity. I am being initiated this week as I simultaneously sneeze along with my daughter and spouse. Gabe and I are lucky enough to be on antibiotics now, but poor Persy just has to wait it out. She has been such a trooper too. Amidst coughs, itchy eyes and mucus extractions she will still look up at me and give me a beaming smile. Who does that? Clearly we have an "old soul" in our home who will be a spiritual guide for her parents. I love this child and wish that she did not have to suffer.
