One Year Later . . .
Gabe and I began the process of trying to adopt a baby exactly one year ago. We started our paperwork in January 2007 and were approved for adoption in August. This past year has really been a spiritual adventure as we've learned to put our trust in the Lord and as we've struggled with learning patience. I've come to believe that whatever trials we experience in life come with an equal if not greater amount of spiritual blessings. I'll admit that there have been discouraging moments, but every time I find myself despairing I feel that the Lord is there to comfort me and teach me some new found lesson. I feel so grateful that I have had such an upbeat and strong spouse that is there to offer council and encouragement. I know that we'll be parents someday and this thought fills me with joy and hope.

Baby Reuben
Weekend Fun
Gabe and I had a fun and eventful holiday weekend. We got to visit some art galleries with friends, eat sushi, spend an afternoon visiting with Gabe's family, and go rock climbing.
This picture is with my mother at an interesting bookstore we perused on Saturday. She came into town to present a lecture on nutrition at my library. Her lifelong work as a dietitian made her a real expert on the topic and it was great to hear all her practical advice. After the lecture, we ate lunch at at a scrumptious little Middle-Eastern restaurant.

Las Vegas Marathon
Last month, we went to Las Vegas where Gabe ran the marathon and I ran the half marathon. The race was fun with runners dressed as Elvis and rock bands performing along the route. After the race, we had a crazy craving for hot dogs and chili cheese fries. This picture was taken later in the evening when we proudly sported our medals and visited the Mandalay Bay shark reef.
